GIANT softdrink company Coca-Cola Amatil (PNG) is the second corporate entity to support Papua New Guinea’s bid for an NRL licence in the world’s toughest rugby league competition.
“The K1.5 million sponsorship deal under the Coca-Cola brand is the biggest ever provided in PNG and has been given to the Bid team to help lead the way for PNG to secure an NRL licence over the next three years,” Minister for Sports and Minister of State assisting the Prime Minister and
chairman of the PNG NRL Bid team Philemon Embel announced at a media conference yesterday at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby.
“Today is an exciting day for me, the NRL Bid board and management, the National Government and the people of Papua New Guinea who will be raising their Coca-Cola cans and ‘screaming ‘Brrrrilliant’ as the world’s biggest brand backs our NRL Bid,” Embel said.
He said the bid team and Coca- Cola had joined forces as they were both focused on the development of youth sporting talent, particularly rugby league.
“The Coca-Cola brand is one of the most powerful brands in the world, particularly with youth, and it is an ideal vehicle and icon to promote the bid.
“We welcome Coca-Cola Amatil’s decision in helping support our bid and for their greater vision in helping to promote a healthy lifestyle for our young people through rugby league,” the Minister said.
CCA national marketing manager Louise Maher who flew into the capital from their head office in Lae in the morning said Coke was thrilled to be on board to support the bid.
